From the creator behind AFK Arena comes another epic mobile game. Lilith Games recently introduced Rise of Kingdoms: Lost Crusade as one of their newest offerings after the success of their AFK Arena. Rise of Kingdoms: Lost Crusade is an MMO RTS but you have probably seen this game through their overwhelming number of advertisements which some might tag as misleading campaigns. Some of their well-known ads will feature either exaggerated gameplay or a humorous 3D animation. Rise of Kingdoms: Lost Crusade has some Clash of Clans vibes to it and the game’s real graphics are very much alike. Despite all the misleading campaigns, Rise of Kingdoms: Lost Crusade is actually a great RTS packed with remarkable visuals, a nice story progression, and a surprisingly addictive city-building gameplay. Now, let us take a deeper look at this game to see why this MMO should be added on your game list.
The mechanics for this game are generally simple and easily manageable. If you have experienced playing any city-building RTS games, then you should know how exactly Rise of Kingdoms works. Before the game starts, you will be asked first to pick your preferred civilization. Interestingly, the game comes with 11 unique civilizations to choose from. Each civilization comes with unique attributes and an exclusive special unit. You will also be given a special starting commander that is merely based on a real historical figure. These civilizations include Rome, Germany, Britain, Spain, China, Japan, Korea, Arabia, Ottoman Empire, Byzantium, and France.
Each civilization is designed differently. As soon as the game starts, you will be welcomed with an impressive cinematic introduction showcasing how your civilization started. Animation-wise, you can see huge similarities to Clash of Clans with all the cute and cartoon-like characters but still special on its own. After selecting your preferred civilization, you will start with the Stone Age era. You begin with a small village with basic buildings such as Farm, Mill, and Tavern. Although you can do almost anything in the game, you still have to follow the given quests. Simply tap the Quest icon on the far left side of the game screen to access your quest log. This will list down all the tasks you should complete to progress.
Build Your Kingdom
As what the title of the game suggests, your main objective is to rise above the rest and transform your simple community into a powerful empire. To do so, you must follow all the quests and upgrade your buildings to their maximum potential. The City Hall is the heart of your kingdom and plays a huge role in the game. As you upgrade the City Hall, your village will eventually transition to another era until you get the civilization you want. Much like a classic city building RTS, in the entire course of the game, the player will be asked to construct buildings to gather more resources, build training and research facilities, upgrading structures to increase their productivity, and many others.
Aside from improving your kingdom, players will also be asked to send troops to explore the world map to scout for additional resources, hunt for enemies, unlock new areas, and many more. When engage in battle, you have to summon the best commander to lead your troop. Commanders can be unlocked when you have collected enough fragments of them. Starting commanders are merely based on various historical figures depending on your chosen civilization. Historical figures like Joan o Arc, Pelagius, Sun Tzu, Kusunoki Mashashige, Baibars, Osman I, and many others will find their fictional version in this game. Each commander has a talent tree and receives talent points that can be distributed to any talent tree of his choice.
Explore and Conquer
Compared to other RTS games, the combat system for Rise of Kingdoms: Lost Crusade is well executed. It comes with a well-polished exploration system. Simply tap the Map icon on the lower-left corner of the screen to access the world map. You can search for a specific item on the map by tapping the Search icon (just above the home button). Here, you can search for nearby Barbarians (with specified level), Croplands, Logging Camp, Stone, and Gold Deposits. You can also interact with other cities and you have the option to either Scout, Rally, or Attack the kingdom. Just make sure that your troops are well prepared for the battle, otherwise, it would be a suicide mission.
The game also comes with various PvP campaigns. Tap the Campaign icon below the screen to access the game modes. Here, you can choose among Expedition, Ask of Osiris, Sunset Canyon, and Osiris Invitational Campaigns. Each comes with different objectives and will grant you great rewards. Players can also join an Alliance and take advantage of its perks. Alliance Help allows you to request for partial assistance from your members to expedite or better yet skip the waiting time for construction and upgrades. You can also participate in Alliance Wars and enjoy other perks like Alliance Gifts, Technology, and exclusive Alliance shop.
Rise of Kingdoms: Lost Crusade is possibly one of the most decent city-building RTS games we have seen in a long time. It comes with well-polished gameplay and an interesting story and periodical progression. It is interesting to see how your simple village from Stone age area transforms into a powerful and modernized kingdom as you progress. The diversity between civilizations is an interesting approach as well. Appearance-wise, this game is an absolute visual delight. It may not provide the same 3D graphics as shown in most of their ads but the character designs and the animation are still beautiful and worth exploring. This is also complemented by well-fitting music to match the given theme.
Rise of Kingdoms: Lost Crusade comes with many areas to explore and will not just rely mainly on upgrades and city-building. There are many multiplayer elements to explore and there’s an overwhelming number of commanders to unlock. Overall, it is a great RTS game that you can confidently include on your mobile game list. Currently, Rise of Kingdoms: Lost Crusade is available for both Android and iOS devices and you can download this epic MMO RTS absolutely for free. Have fun!
