If you have played the classic Yu-Gi-Oh card game, then you should know how the duel works but if not, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links comes with a simplified battle format that even new players can easily understand. The game comes with a very simple mechanics; you go on a duel, summon monsters from your predefined (yet customizable) deck and win the match by inflicting direct damage to your opponent’s life points until it reaches zero. Of course, despite the apparent simplicity, the players are strongly encouraged to establish the most effective strategy to maximize their chances in winning.
Here’s how the game works. As soon as the game begins, you will be asked to select your preferred character between Seto Kaiba and Yami Yugi. This prompt you right away to the virtual duel world that you can freely explore. In this world, you will encounter people that you can ask for a duel. You will be given with a default deck with random cards (monster, spells and trap cards). Once engaged on a duel, four cards will be drawn randomly from your deck. You can summon monsters, attack opponents, activate spell or trap cards before you end your turn. The player who inflicts damage directly to the opponent and pulls it down to zero wins the duel.

In every duel, players will take turns. During a player’s turn, he can do numerous actions such as summoning a monster card on the field, setting trap cards or activating spell cards. He can also perform attacks by putting two opposing monsters on a battle. If the opponent has no active monster cards on the field, the attack will inflict direct damage to the opponent’s life points. Once done, you have to manually end your turn. There’s also a so-called Special summon in which you have to sacrifice one or more monster cards as a sacrifice.
