VOODOO games are always characterized by their simplicity. Games like Helix Jump, Stack Jump and Flappy Dunk are all simple yet surprisingly addictive and fun. Snake VS Block is an interesting addition to the ever growing VOODOO game collection. As what the title suggests, the game features a snake that breaks through a series of blocks. Like most of the games from VOODOO, this game also requires extreme eye and hand coordination to win.

The main objective in this game is simple. Get the highest score as possible and reach the farthest distance as you can. Generally, the game is also inspired from the classic Snake game but played in a unique twist.

The Gameplay

Snake Vs Block is an upscrolling arcade game. As soon as the game begins, it prompts you to the game zone right away. The snake will move automatically but you can still freely navigate the map and move to any direction you want.  You can simply move around by dragging the snake on the screen. Now here’s the tricky part. You will encounter two kinds of items on the map; the numbered pellets and the numbered Blocks.

Like the classic Snake, the pellets will allow you to grow in length. The number on the pellets will indicate the amount or size that will be added on your snake. Therefore, the bigger the number, the longer your length will become. The highest number of pellet is 5 while the lowest is 1. There’s a number written above the snake to indicate its current length. The Blocks are the main obstacles. Each block has a number on it which indicates the amount of pellets you must consume to breakthrough it.

There are five lanes to pass through. The blocks will sometime occupy some lanes but most of the time, they will block them all. In this case, you must select the block with the lowest number. Let’s say your current length is 25 and the Block number is 20. In order to pass through, you must consume 20 of your length and only 5 will remain. If the block is bigger than your current size, the game will come to a quick end.

The Score System and Unlockable Skins

The gameplay is very repetitive and there’s really nothing much to do other than evading blocks and trying to keep the snake alive. What really gives this game a decent amount of replay value is the great number of skins to unlock.  Each attempt grants you with one point and you can use these points to unlock new skins. Players will have no idea of what kind of Skin they can unlock which encourages them to play more.

Versus Mode and Challenge Campaign

Interestingly, one of the greatest additions in this game is the Versus Mode. In this campaign, you are going to race against random generated online players. This mode allows you to consume other players by reaching their tails. If you lose all your balls, you’ll lose the battle as well.

Challenge Campaign, on the other hand, takes you to a series of challenging levels with varying range of difficulties. Each challenge will have different objectives and goals to achieve. The higher the level, the more challenging it becomes.

Verdict

Just like most of the games from VOODOO, Snake Vs Block is generally simple and fun. It is surprisingly addictive as well. The downside however is the overall presentation. There’s nothing really engaging with the graphics and they could have made some tweaks or improvements to make the game more visually appealing. In addition to that, the game notably has no music to offer and it really affects the overall replay value of the game. All in all, it’s a simple game that works perfectly even without Internet connection! Have fun!
