Hockey games of this kind have been around since the days of Pong. That ranges from all the way back to the 1970’s, when arcade games were just starting to thrive! But this is not just an ordinary hockey game; this is Glow Hockey. Okay, so the glowy visual asethetic doesn’t really add anything more to the game than looking cool; nevertheless, I do dig how the graphics look in this game. There is a genuine appeal the neon colors offer, and if one is to make some sort of one-v-one Pong styled game, it may as well be worth looking at. After all, this day and age, these types of games are more accessible than they ever could have been decades prior. Mobile phones have practically become supercomputers at this point, now that I think about it…
As such, Glow Hockey is a visually entertaining sort of game. There is a variety of difficulty levels to choose from in case you get tired of facing the same type of opponent over and over again. It’s certainly a challenging game when you take on the more difficult options, making for an ultimately satisfying victory should you knock the puck straight past the enemy. This kind of play never gets old for me, and I am sure there are people that feel the same way. It’s a great, responsive game of Pong, I oughta say.
As fun as it is, though, there is one glaring flaw I have to point out. Glow Hockey unfortunately does not have any online multiplayer. This is the perfect kind of game to play with a friend or stranger for some kicks. So why exactly isn’t this feature present in the game? It is honestly baffling to see such an essential mode be non-existent; it single-handedly takes out a lot of reason to play the game for longer than a few minutes. There are only so many times people could be interested in facing a CPU opponent over and over again. It’s a lot of fun at first for sure, but the fun is in a fairly limited quantity when it comes to this sort of thing.
Still, if you are curious, you can definitely check this one out. It does have its merits, and the graphics are as appealing as they are flashy. I just wish there was a little more to it to justify staying on my phone. You will definitely love this game if you’re into Pong games to begin with, but others may want more from a mobile game than this. What you see is what you get, and it may or may not be all you’ll ever need. Nothing more, but nothing less. I am at least glad I got to experience this little game, so maybe you’ll find yourself satisfied with this as well. Who knows? It would not hurt to give the game a shot, after all.
